Date:

Color woodblock print

Typical Price

Autumn foliage at Arayu hot springs showcases Shotei's gift for warm seasonal color. Post-earthquake editions typically sell for $500-$1,500, while the rare pre-1923 originals bearing the small 6mm circular Watanabe seal can reach $2,000-$4,000. Shotei lost all of his woodblocks in the 1923 earthquake, making pre-quake impressions significantly scarcer.

Description

A hot spring village nestled in mountains ablaze with autumn foliage. Steam rises from the natural hot springs, mingling with the cool autumn air to create wisps of mist among the brilliant red and orange leaves. The print captures the unique atmosphere of a Japanese mountain onsen in the peak of autumn color.
