Typical Price

Snow falling on Zojoji Temple, with its massive red gate visible through the white veil, creates one of Shotei's most iconic compositions. Post-earthquake editions bring $700-$2,500, while pre-earthquake originals with the 6mm seal can reach $3,000-$5,000. This subject invites direct comparison with Hasui's famous Zojoji print, and both are highly collected.

Description

The grand gate of Zojoji Temple in Shiba, Tokyo, stands transformed by a heavy snowfall. Figures with umbrellas make their way through the deep snow, their forms dark against the white landscape. The warm red of the temple gate provides a striking contrast to the cool whites and grays of the snowy scene, creating one of Shotei''s most celebrated compositions.
