About This Series

Souvenirs of Travel, Third Series is the final major installment of Kawase Hasui's landmark travel series, published by Watanabe Shozaburo in 1924. This series features scenes from the San'in region (Izumo, Matsue), the Oga Peninsula, and locations in Shikoku and along the Pacific coast. By this point in his career, Hasui had fully developed his signature atmospheric style, and the Third Series contains some of his most accomplished works. The prints of Matsue and the Izumo coast are particularly celebrated for their masterful rendering of mist, moonlight, and the subtle gradations of twilight.
